Low-Limit cash game strategy is probably one of the easiest to master. With so many fish (weak players) playing at this level it would make the most sense to play a very tight game. Some people may say to play a few more hands than usual, because it gives you a chance to out play the weaker players after the flop, but I believe that leaves too many opportunities for you to get sucked-out (having your dominate hand get beat by the river by a usually worse starting hand) on. However, I believe, by playing the strongest hands possible, you limit your chances of getting sucked-out on and you can get used to playing big hands to their best possible ability. What I mean by playing the best hands possible is playing big pairs and high suited connectors. Big Pairs mean anything from about 99-AA and high suited connectors mean face cards of the same suit only one card away in rank (AK KQ JQ). Another thing that should be taken deeply into consideration when playing online is the use of online tells. When you get up into the big stakes players will confuse you by the way they time there calls, but in the smaller limits players don’t realize how much they are giving away just by the amount of time it takes them to make a move. For example, if a player is taking a long time to fold or call a raise, chances are they really don’t want to make this call. This helps you because you can almost tell what he’s holding. If he’s only holding middle pair, and you have something bigger than that then this is your chance to make an even bigger bet the next time. Chances are you aren’t hearing this next sentence for the first time, but players will almost call anything at this level. This is what you have to take advantage of. Another gigantic online tell is to see how fast the player makes there decision. One of the easiest things to do is to see if the player has his check/fold button checked. This means the player has already decided that his hand is no good and he is only hoping you check and he/she can catch a card. This is one of the easier ways to make money. If your opponent is acting before you and you are able to tell they have clicked the button, you can make any kind or raise, with junk, and they are almost always going to fold. By already auto clicking the check/fold button they were already telling you they have junk. Even with a 72 off suit you can rake in a considerable pot if you are smart enough to notice this, and it really doesn’t take a rocket scientist, or even an online poker pro. Another form of low-limit strategy that is often overlooked it to make sure to pick out the optimal game before you sit down at the table. As I stated in my “Low Stakes Poker Player” story, low stake tables sometimes have up to 60 percent of the players seeing the flop. That is an absolutely crazy number, and it is something you hardly see in “real life” poker. This is also an absolutely crazy opportunity for you to make some money before moving up in limits. With you playing your optimal hands, and 60 percent of the people at your table calling the blinds, this gives you a great chance to win a ton of pots. A lot of people lack the patience to do this, but poker is a marathon that lasts a lifetime, not a quick sprint that lasts a single session.
